My book group is rather a trip. The host picks the book AND makes dinner for everyone. It's a great social gathering, but it's really more of a supper club, as it's very hard to get people to talk about the book. Usually only a handful of people have actually finished it.

We also have lots of interrupters in the groups—ie, people who just talk over each other constantly. I tend to shut down in situations like this.

But I like the food and wine. And as a freelancer, it's good for me to get out of the house.

We've been on a bit of a hiatus, and I've loved just reading what I want to read. The new book has just been announced. Now I have to decide whether to go.

I feel your pain.
