I was confused, then concerned, then annoyed when the web host lost 5 months of posts. Thankfully it was a temporary problem.

It was fun to see Chris and Sheri last week.

So glad to see that you're back with a current date. I was confused and then concerned when I started reading about Clare and the SATs in March. Kudos to you for still be willing to camp--I would definitely vote for the B&B with or without kids!

Agreed, that's a bad idea...It kind of reminds me of when they started selling blue Gatorade. I was afraid my kids would end up drinking Windex because it was the same color. Different, but sort of the same.

Hi Mollie -

By "harassed" I meant too busy to be friendly to "walk-ins". All other campuses we visited that had regular receptionists (and not students) manning the desks gave us a tour. As I mentioned, we felt dismissed. It seems as if we visited on a bad day.

Thanks for the comment. I'll pass your note to Clare.

Hi Dona,
So glad Clare liked Denison, and sorry to hear we are not quite as accommodating as Kenyon. Perhaps we just have a greater volume of visitors? BTW, I was wondering what your definition of harassed was?
Please have Clare look me up when she makes it back to campus.

Thanks for your comment, Sarah -- the room would have been better, but the smell would have been the same since the Hampton Inn in Sandusky, Ohio is only a few hundred yards from the Day's Inn -- the outside air would have smelled as bad.

We should have traveled farther up the road, away from the smell, but we didn't know what was there until we checked in.

Wow, how funny I stumbled upon your blog since I work for Hampton Inn. Too bad you passed us up and opted to stay at another hotel. You certainly would have had a much better experience. Once I tried to be frugal before I was with Hampton Inn and stayed at this one hotel that smelled like being downwind of a row of porta-potties, mixed with cigar smoke...it was disgusting! LOL!! I can laugh about it now. But right now were having a 10% off promotion. Check it out!

Also check out this funny video, called "Ballad of a Traveler", it is hilarious. He totally sums up the travelers experience:

Thanks Diane -- I agree. Before the trip I wondered if she was going to find anything she'd like, now I know she will.

I liked Chatham -- and so did she. Dean's wary about all-girls colleges.

We'll see. She wants to visit Rhodes College in Memphis and some in New England. I'd like her to look at Connecticut College and Hampshire. Maybe Ithaca College. Maybe the University of Vermont -- but it is not small...

This trip not only allowed us to bond more, but she learned a few lessons and I think she learned to read a map!!

Looking forward to seeing Chris and Sheri in a few days.

I've certainly enjoyed sharing the trip vicariously through your blog. It has also piqued my interest in looking more closely at some regional liberal arts colleges. I think several of the ones you visited could be a good fit for Clare. Thanks for the tour!
