books.jpgI’ve got dozens of books waiting to be read in various places around the house and hundreds I’ve already read. Because reading is part of who I am, I’ve made a place for my past, present and future reads.

You can also see what I’ve read by visiting the following websites. Some of the content on them (especially Revish) will be redundant because I often repeat my reviews in my weblog.

The Overachievers

I bought this book about a year ago, thinking I should probably read about the high school my kids were attending. I never got to it until today. I’m  glad I waited until now to read it, and glad I didn’t put it off another six months.

Had I read it before now I would not have understood the whole weighted vs unweighted GPA business, nor would I have understood the SAT scores (although I am still a little confused about those). Having recently gone to a Juniors and parents meeting at Whitman, I know a little more about the college application process than I did before the meeting. If I had put it off 6 months, Clare would have no longer been a Junior. While there is little I can do to help her with this hellish year, I can understand her stress levels a little more now than before starting to read this book.

The book follows a number of Whitman High School students for 3 semesters of high school and details their quests to get into select colleges. I’m only on the first chapter, but I’m enjoying reading it very much.

The Power of One

Last summer my next door neighbor commented on our similar taste in books when she looked at my bookshelf, I loaned her a book I really liked (Shadow of the Wind) and she loaned me The Power of One. She finished Shadow of the Wind and I loaned her Water for Elephants. I’m still reading The Power of One. It’s not that I don’t like the book, I’ve just been in a bit of a reading slump lately and was concentrating on reading my book group books, although I have not read one of those books in months either. Damn Internet. Damn work. Damn pinot noir.

My book group is currently reading The Thirteenth Tale, a book I adored.
