Things I’ve learned

Ongoing list of things I’ve learned that I don’t want to lose.

  • Hyperlinking to specific page in PDF on someone else’s site: use “#page=[page number]. For instance: to link to page 66 of a PDF file use “#page=66″ at the end of the hyperlink, similar to the “#[named element] on web pages. [thanks wikipedia]
  • Extracting images from Word file: This only works with files in Word 2007, but since I have it, I use it. It seems that Word 2007 files (.docx) are actually zip files. Rename the file as a zip file. Inside the zipped folder you will find a folder called “word”. Open that and you will find the images that were embedded in the word file. [thanks MSDN Magazine]
