The diary of a retired boomer

Romney

Dean needed to pick something up at a big box store and to do that you must travel at least half an hour. This big box store was in Romney, West Virginia which is about 30 minutes away. After that task we stopped at the Romney Diner for lunch. Its motto is “Enter a stranger, leave a friend.” It’s a very tiny diner with no more than fifteen tables.

Dean ordered what he always orders in diners — a cheeseburger and fries. I would have had a grilled cheese — my favorite diner food, but they had a country ham sandwich so I ordered that. The server asked what I wanted on it and I asked what people usually have on it. She said she likes just yellow mustard so I went with her suggestion. It was good — about as salty as you’d expect. I wasn’t expecting the smiley face though! πŸ™‚

After the diner we drove around looking for a shop Dean wanted to visit. After what looked like a wild goose chase we finally found it, but it was a disappointment.

Birds

I had trouble reconnecting the bird camera to the wifi today but persevered and it finally worked out. So far we’ve only had a downy or hairy woodpecker visit today.

Raclette tonight

Tonight we’re having leftovers plus a raclette meal. I bought a raclette grill for the cabin and was hoping to try it this visit. I picked up some raclette cheese at Wegmans on Monday. I’m making the rest of the bread dumplings from last night, and we’ll also have pickled beets, pickles, boiled new potatoes, leftover beef rouladen, gravy, carrots, hard boiled eggs, and maybe carrots.

Dinner

The raclette grill meal was a success. Dean loved it. We’ve decided to give one to our daughter when we visit next month. I think she’ll love it too.

Movie

We watched Train Dreams tonight. What a beautiful film. And heartbreaking. So much better than last night’s movie.

That’s it for today, goodnight!
